"The Pirates of Penzance"
The South Coast Choral and Arts Group are celebrating their 60th Anniversary. This year their musical is "The Pirates of Penzance", which was also their very first production performed 60 years earlier.

SYNOPSIS:
Gilbert and Sullivan’s ever popular pirate romp was first performe in New York on December 31st, 1879 and was an instant succes!
The Story begins with Frederic celebrating his 21st year when he is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. He is pursued by the middle aged Ruth, a pirate maid-of-all work, but rejects her when he sees a bevy of beautiful maidens.
Only one, Mabel, the daughter of Major-general Stanley, feels sorry for Frederic, The two fall instantly in Love. Frederic later finds out that because he was born on February 29th, he actually has only one birthday each leap year. As his apprenship indentures state thet he remains apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday, he must serve for another 63 years. Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.
Complicating the story are the fearsome Pirate King, a sly Major-general, his many wards-in-chancery and their chaperones, a hapless Sergeant of Police and his not-so-brave constabulary.
The story all ends very happlily with the pirates being not so bad after all. everyone pays homeage to Queen Victoria and almost all get married.
